Daniel Braithwaite

Daniel Braithwaite is the Principal and Chief Executive of Lancaster & Morecambe College (LMC), one of Lancashire’s leading further education providers. With more than 25 years of experience in further education and skills, Daniel has built a career spanning teaching, curriculum leadership, quality improvement and executive leadership. Having started his own career through an apprenticeship pathway, he remains a passionate advocate for the transformative power of education, skills and lifelong learning.  

Since becoming Principal in 2023, Daniel has led a period of significant growth and development at Lancaster & Morecambe College. Under his leadership, the college has expanded its reach, strengthened employer partnerships and enhanced its reputation as a key contributor to regional economic growth, social mobility and workforce development. 

 Daniel is committed to ensuring that education responds effectively to the needs of learners, employers and communities. He champions high-quality technical and professional education, working closely with industry partners to develop talent pipelines that support priority sectors across Lancashire and beyond. 

Alongside his role at LMC, Daniel serves as Vice Chair of The Lancashire Colleges and is an active governor and non-executive director. Through these appointments he maintains strong connections with key industries and stakeholders, helping to bridge the gap between education, skills and employment. His governance and board-level experience provide valuable insight into strategic leadership, organisational development and regional economic priorities.  

Daniel is particularly passionate about creating opportunities for people of all backgrounds to succeed and believes that colleges play a vital role as anchor institutions within their communities. His leadership is characterised by a strong commitment to partnership working, innovation and delivering positive outcomes for learners. 

In 2026, Lancaster & Morecambe College was recognised as a finalist in the BIBA Awards for Post-16 Education Provider of the Year, reflecting the college’s growing impact, ambition and contribution to learners, employers and the wider Lancashire economy.
